Abstract

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a clinical condition characterized by acute hypoxemic respiratory failure that is associated with substantial mortality even 40 years since it was first described. Although hypoxemia appears to be the most conspicuous abnormality noticed with this condition, it isn’t the most common cause of death.
