Jian Wang, MD&PhD. Professor & Deputy director of Department of Neurology; Director of Movement Disorder Division, Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai, China.

As PI on several NSFC funded grants, Dr. Wang’s has established a track record of productive projects in the clinical and basic research in the area of Parkinson’s disease (PD). His research work is focused on elucidating the role of alpha-synuclein in pathogenesis of PD, developing biomarkers to diagnose PD at its early stage and with more accuracy, and exploring better intervention for the progressive neurodegenerative disorders.

General expertise:
1. Setting up online database of PD to longitudinally monitor the chronic illness in a multi-center manner, and exploring better management and prognosis for those with PD in China.
2. Developing biomarkers to diagnose PD at its early stage and with more accuracy, especially using PET imaging of dopamine transporters and metabolic networking pattern for diagnosing PD at its prodromal stage.
3. Elucidating the role of alpha-synuclein in pathogenesis of PD and explore trehalose and other novel interventions to treat it.
