Zhangyu Zou, MD, PhD

Dr. Zou is a qualified Neurologist who works at Fujian Medical University Union Hospital. He focuses on clinical, electrophysiological, and genetics researches in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He leads a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to care and treat ALS patients to improve their prognosis. His interesting area also includes peripheral neuropathy and electromyography.

He received his MD Degree in Fujian Medical University and Ph.D. Degree in Peking Union Medical College, China. In 2012, he was awarded with President’s Research Initiative Award during the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) 59th Annual Meeting. In 2013, he was awarded International Scholarship Award in American Academy of Neurology (AAN) 65th Annual Meeting. He was granted by International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology (IFCN) Research Scholarships and severed as a Visiting Scholar at the Electrophysiological Departments of the Hannover Medical School in Hannover, Germany during March 2016 to February 2017. His research focuses on monitoring disease progression of ALS patients with Motor unit number index (MUNIX).

He has published 15 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and he is also the principal investigator for a project of National Natural Science Foundation of China and two projects of Natural Science Foundation of Fujian Province.
