Aik Choon Tan, PhD

Dr. Aik Choon Tan is an Associate Professor of Bioinformatics, Director of the Translational Bioinformatics and Cancer Systems Biology Laboratory at the Division of Medical Oncology, Departments of Medicine, Biostatistics and Informatics, University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. He is a member of the University of Colorado Cancer Center Developmental Therapeutics Program. His lab develops and applies computational/machine learning and statistical methods to integrate high-throughout and complex biological data sources for biomarker discovery and understanding the resistance mechanisms in tumors. His lab is also develops new computational methods and tools for drug repurposing and repositioning. He collaborates closely with his clinical colleagues in translating bioinformatics and bench discovery to clinical trials. He obtained his B.Eng. in Chemical/Bioprocess Engineering from the University of Technology Malaysia and earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science/Bioinformatics from the University of Glasgow. Subsequently, he received his post-doctoral training at the Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering and at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He joined the faculty of University of Colorado in 2009. He serves as an Associate Editor of the Biochemical Genetics, and is an editorial board member of Scientific Reports, Annals of Translational Medicine and Cancer Informatics. Dr. Tan has published more than 90 papers in bioinformatics and cancer research.
