Nicola Fazio, MD, PhD, Director
Unit of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology and Neuroendocrine Tumors, European Institute of oncology, IEO, Milan.
Born in Campobasso, Italy, on 18-May-1963. Graduated at University of L’Aquila, Faculty ofMedicine and Surgery, on 28-Jul-1988. Specialised in Internal Medicine, in 1993, and then inOncology, in 2003. In 2013 he got the PhD in Digestive Oncology.
During the first ten years after degree he practiced mainly internal medicine activities.Since 1995 he was totally dedicated to medical oncology clinical research. Since 1995 hehas been working at European Institute of Oncology, where currently he is Director of thegastrointestinal medical oncology and neuroendocrine tumors unit.
As for clinical activity he is particularly involved in multidisciplinary management ofpatients with digestive cancers. As for research he is interested first of all in neuroendocrineneoplasms translational research; he is and has been principal investigator of a number ofclinical trials.
For around 15 years he has been coordinating a multidisciplinary team for neuroendocrineneoplasms. Since 2013 he is coordinator of Italian guidelines for neuroendocrine neoplasms.Currently he coordinates a team of six medical oncologists, involved in clinical managementof patients with digestive cancers and neuroendocrine neoplasms, and in clinical research ofthis area.
So far he was co-author of around 100 papers published in peer-reviewed journals andseveral chapters of oncological text-books; he reviewed manuscripts for several peer-reviewjournals.
