Keertan Dheda is Professor of Respiratory Medicine, Director of the Lung Infection and Immunity Unit, and Head of the Division of Pulmonology, Department of Medicine, at the University of Cape Town. He has been the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the 2014 Oppenheimer Award and the 2014 SA National Science & Technology Forum BHP Billiton award for contributions to Science. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers in the field of TB, and holds several patents related to new TB diagnostic or infection control technologies. He serves on the editorial board of several journals including the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Medicine, Lancet Respiratory Diseases, and Nature Scientific Reports, amongst others. He holds a visiting Professor appointment at University College London (UCL) and a postgraduate teaching position at the University of Sassari in Italy. He provides educational input to several academic societies including the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Thoracic Society, and serves as co-chair of the LTBI sub-group of the Stop TB Partnership.
