Peter is Patient Advocate of Inspire2Live. Since 2005, Peter lives with a lymphoma and shows others that cancer does not have to be a death sentence, but can also be the start of a new and richer life, full of opportunities and beautiful people. A Happy and Healthy life in Harmony with cancer. Peter is married to Marjolijn and has two sons; Milo (1996) and Jaron (1998).
Peter is one of the initiators of Inspire2Live. What started as an initiative of 66 bikers who on one day (6-6-6) cycled up mount Alped'Huez six times, is now a huge event with 8.000 cyclists raising tens of millions each year. A dream, an idea, a target. That’s what it is all about. To transform the most beautiful dream into action. To make the first step and see that others will make the next one. Once they get moving, the ultimate target immediately becomes visible and real.
Inspire2Live connects patients, clinicians and researchers in the fight against cancer. The objective of the Patient Advocates is to take care of the best cancer care and the access to this cancer care. Cooperation is the key word in this. Through the concept of The Discovery Network Peter and Inspire2Live connects the best of the best in the world around several topics that has to deliver solutions for patients. An example is the organoids for drugs screening that are now used in research for colon, pancreatic and prostate cancer. Inspire2Live initiated this for patients important way of new screening.
Peter is employed by the Dutch central bank, which facilitates him to work three days a week for Inspire2Live and it’s mission. His job enables Peter to be genuinely independent and to always choose for the patient. Patients First!
Peter has received an Honorary Doctorate at the Free University of Amsterdam on the 19th of October 2012.
