Federico Canavese is born in Torino, Italy. He moved to Montpellier, France to complete his training under the guidance of Professor Alain Diméglio. He subsequently completed a three years Pediatric Orthopedic training session between the Shriners Hospital for Children in Portland, USA and The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. He then worked at the University Hospital of Geneva, Switzerland with Professor André Kaelin and completed a PhD in Animal Pathology at the Universities of Bologna and Udine, Italy where he studied thoracic and lung growth and effects of spinal arthrodesis on neural elements.
Professor Canavese is currently Head of the Pediatric Surgery Department at University Hospital of Clermont Ferrand, France. Professor Canavese also completed a one year Clinical Professorship at GuangZhou Women and Children Hospital at University of GuangZhou, GuangZhou, China.
Professor Canavese clinical and surgical interests are spinal disorders, cerebral palsy and pediatric traumatology. He speaks Italian, French, English and Spanish, and regularly travels to several developing countries to take care of children with orthopedic problems (humanitarian action).
Professor Canavese is member of the European Pediatric Orthopedic Society (EPOS) and Chair of the EPOS Educational committee for the years 2018-2021, Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America (POSNA), Pediatric Orthopedic Society of France (SOFOP), Orthopedic and Traumatology Society of France (SOFCOT) and Salter’s Society. He is author of numerous publications in peer reviewed journals as well as Editorial Board member and Reviewer of several orthopedic journals.
