Ashutosh Kumar, PhD

Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Hyderabad, Telangana, India

He is working in the diabetic neuropathy and peripheral neuropathies for past 12 years looking at the pathophysiology underlying peripheral nerve disorder. His research is motivated by the vision of understanding interlinked mechanisms contributing towards the neuronal damage in diabetic condition and under nerve injury due to trauma or chemotherapy exposure. Most of the research done in this area has been focused on symptomatically relieving neuropathy outcomes. But the research on mechanistic approach towards treatment regimen is albeit very less. He tried to explore few of patho-mechanisms like oxidative nitrosative stress, PARP over-activation, advanced glycation end product formation, MAPK activation and activation of transcription factors like Nuclear kappa B. The research work accomplished so far has been published in many of reputed journals and has been widely cited by scientific community. Recently he has started working on Mitochondrial dysfunction and mitophagy in the pathophysiology of peripheral neuropathies, In addition to this, his lab also work on nephropathy, pancreatic regeneration ect.
