Ervin Toth is the head of the Endoscopy Unit and a Senior Gastroenterology Consultant at Skåne University Hospital, Malmö. He is also the past president of the Swedish Capsule Endoscopy Group and the Endoscopy Board of Swedish Society of Gastroenterology. He is a member/fellow of several specialty national and international societies and member of the editorial board of prestigious specialty journals. Toth has been involved in clinical research since 1983. His research has been concentrated upon clinical gastroenterology with particular interest in gastrointestinal endoscopy, capsule endoscopy, and its related topics. He has particular interest in the morphofunctional disturbances of the gastrointestinal tract. Since 1983, he has used various innovative endoscopic methods (pH and PD measurement and intravital mucosa staining) for improving the outcome of routine endoscopy. He defended his doctoral thesis, in the field of chromoendoscopy and its application in clinical endoscopy, in 2002. During the last decade his research interest has been mainly focused on the development and clinical applications of capsule endoscopy and other innovative technologies in the field of GI endoscopy. Toth is the supervisor of 2 Ph.D. students in the field of capsule endoscopy. He participated (often as Principal Investigator) in 36 national and international studies. He counts 121 peer-reviewed publications, 9 book chapters, and 225 published abstracts.
