Dr. Zhang obtained his Medical Doctor degree from Anhui Medical University in 2011, and now is a medical doctor in the Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery Department, at RuiJin Hospital affiliated with the Shanghai JiaoTong University School of Medicine, where they run a high-volume program in deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery which ranks within the top 3 in China. His clinical subspecialties include surgery for movement, and neuropsychiatric disorders. 

Academically, his research interests focus on the mechanism of deep brain stimulation (DBS) for movement and psychiatric disorders, via human intraoperative electrophysiology, high-field anatomic and functional magnetic resonance imaging of the brain as well as psychometric methods. He has been the research coordinator on several clinical trials which were funded by industry or government. Meanwhile, he is pursuing a PhD degree in Neurosurgery to further DBS related research. He has published many papers in neuroimaging and neuromodulation.
