An example: assume there is one clinical dataset, recorded 1000 patients with measures of 7 variables, in which four serum indexes are quantitative/continuous data, including C-reactive protein (crp), hemoglobin (hb), D-dimer (ddimer) and white blood cell (wbc), and three are qualitative data including diseases symptoms (comorbid), sex and mortality (mort).

Regarding to the quantitative serum indexes, the distributions of crp and hb tend to be normal with Bell shape, but the distributions of ddimer and wbc are asymmetric with a long right tail.

Step 9: Perform the statistical analysis

Compare the baseline Characteristics of multiple independent variable between two groups.

In the above clinical dataset, the aim is to test whether each of the four serums indexes, disease symptoms and sex is significantly difference or not between two groups of patients with dead or alive.

The function twogrps () in the package “CBCgrps” is available for this purpose.

Step 10: Interpret the results

1.One table represents the mean +/- standard deviation of each quantitative serum indexes. And the counts of qualitative variables with disease symptoms and sex, as well as the proportion of patients who are alive.

The table is consisted of 13 rows and 4 columns. Rows indicate the variety of variables. The first three columns indicate three conditions, no grouped, group 1 and group2, and the fourth column indicates P values tested.
