Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) and obesity are two topics that have garnered considerable interest within the hepatology community over recent years. The syndrome of ACLF occurs in patients with cirrhosis and is characterized by the development of acute hepatic decompensation, organ failure and a high rate of 28-day mortality (1).
