Lower extremity arthroplasty
Preface

Lower extremity arthroplasty

This special section of Annals of Translational Medicine focuses on lower extremity arthroplasty, especially knee and hip pathologies. In this section, a multitude of pertinent topics for orthopaedic surgeons as well as for the general patient population are reviewed.

Specifically, for knee pathology, studies and reviews that discuss patient satisfaction, tele-rehabilitation, and bracing therapies are highlighted. We also present studies on post-operative complications in an emerging subset of orthopaedic patients, as well as predictors and influencers of lengths-of-stay, in addition to a number of other topics.

Specifically, for hip pathology, studies and reviews that discuss physician reimbursement, new implant techniques and types, as well as trends in infection rates are presented. We also include studies assessing outcomes after hip resurfacing and elective vs. non-elective hip procedures.

In summary, the goal of this Focus On section is to cover a broad range of current and important knee and hip pathologies. The studies and reviews presented in this section are timely, and pertinent for physicians and patients to help better understand disease processes, as well as to provide unique insights into new avenues of orthopaedic research creating an impetus for future work. We are certain that the following articles will be of great interest for the readership for today and years to come.
